The Role of Social Media in Marketing

What the heck is social media and what role does it play in marketing? This is probably a question you should not have received  years ago, but today it is the most common question that comes into everyone’s mind

First, let's talk about what social media is. Social media provide some low-cost tools that are used to combine technology and social interaction with the use of arguments. These tools are normally mobile or internet based. Some of you have probably heard of like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube.

Social media gives marketers a voice and a way to communicate with their peers, customers and potential customers. It personalizes the "brand" and helps you to spread your message in a relaxed manner and conversational.

The fall of social media, if you can call it that is that it must be a part of your daily life in order to maintain the momentum and attention that you need for it to be successful.
If you think social media is just for small business owners looking to experience, I have to correct you. Here are some companies that are involved in social media:

BMW- Using Facebook to promote their travel route 1 Series and created a page for fans Rampenfest.

Dunkin Donuts- yes they found value in social media and set up a Twitter microblogging account.

Imran Khan- In my examples, I can not leave out the current president of PTI Imran Khan. It has been considered a leader in the use of Twitter during the last elections. He has over 1.5M followers, I remember the "twitter buzz" nowadays and during the last election

As you can see, we have beverage companies, exotic automobile manufacturers, pastries and our leader  using the social media, it's not too difficult to understand that there is something.

What role should it play in your marketing? According to me marketing is a tool we use to inform consumers about our goods, our existence and our offerings. Social media does it. Here's how:

  • We can use social media to give an identity to who we are and the products and services we offer.
  • We can create relationships using social media with people who might not otherwise know about our products or services or that our societies are.
  • Social media makes us "real" for consumers. If you want people to follow you do not talk only about the latest product news, but also share your nature with them.
  • We can use social media to partner with our peers, who may be serving the same target market.
  • We can use social media to communicate and provide the interaction that consumers seek.

As you can see social media brings with it a lot of value, but how do you do things?

  • You can not solely rely on online, you must mix it with other marketing vehicles. While social media will create awareness, I am not convinced that the first it will sell a million dollars worth of products. This does not mean that one day once you've built your social media "celebrity" that it will not, but it probably will not be tomorrow.

  • Be yourself, reflect personality. There is no written "good" rules or "bad" when it comes to social media, only you can determine what works for you.
  • Be consistent, if you do not intend to be consistent not do it at all - it's a waste of everyone's time.
4 ways to build your brand on Social Media

Success stories abound when it comes to using social media headhunters who find job seekers to new businesses that want to introduce a new product and already established Fortune 500 companies that want to strengthen their brand . The role of social media in your marketing is to use it as a communication tool that makes you accessible to those who are interested in your product and makes you visible to those who do not know your product. Use it as an important tool that creates a personality behind your brand and creates links that you can never get otherwise. This creates not only repeat buyers, but also loyal patrons. The fact is that social media is so diverse that it can be used in any way that best suits the interests and needs of your business requirements.

4 Ways to Build Your Brand on Social Media

Social media has become an essential part of online marketing, especially because people (i.e. your future customers) spend a lot of time on social networking sites. So if you are not active on social media, then you are missing out on a huge amount of potential business.

Whether you use a mom and pop business or company several million dollars, it is imperative that you take advantage of social media to increase the visibility of your brand. You do not know where to start? Do not worry; I’ll guide you over the essentials.

Here are four ways you can use social media to build your brand.

1.Use Each site available

It is important that you create a company profile on every major social media site such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, to name a few. Many of the big companies like Instant Checkmate, have even ventured into platforms like Pinterest and Slideshare to increase their social impact. Other profiles that you maintain, the more people you will be able to achieve on a daily basis.

2.Stay Active

If you neglect your social media profiles, your supporters and admirers will think that you got lazy, or that your brand does not have anything new to share with the world. So you have to keep your profiles and make sure that you update each every day. It can be time consuming and tedious, but the consequences of not staying active are much worse than taking an hour or two to keep your social presence.

Being out of the office is not an excuse either, as there are several great tools that you can use to program your messages in advance. Personally, I like HootSuite because his painting simple and easy to navigate panel helps you plan your social media activity (on all pages) weeks or even months in advance.

3.Aim to create viral messages

The ultimate goal of each post is to go viral, and the only way to achieve this is to share content that is both interesting and relevant to your brand. Messages that are timely and funny are also known to do very well on social media. The key here is to put yourself in the shoes of your customers and ask yourself "Is this something I want to share?" If the answer is yes, then you're good to go. If not, then you may want to review your message in order to appeal to a large chunk of people, which will escalate the possibility of your shared content on a massive scale.

4.Crafts (and maintain) Your Brand Voice

When you publish the content of a profile of the company, the last thing you want is to look like a robot because it is the fastest way to legitimize your brand in the eyes of your followers. To avoid this, you need to write a single voice for your brand, and you must ensure that the voice remains consistent across all of your messages.

Taco Bell is a great example of a brand with a distinct and recognizable voice, you can see just by visiting one of their social profiles. They are posts are funny, sarcastic, and sometimes even a bit racy, but it works because they have and they make no excuses for your non-business social media.

If you are unsure of how you want to represent the voice of your brand on social media, you can take some help from research established companies that have become famous for their social approach. A little research can take you long way, and you certainly not know where you'll find the motivation you need. Be certain that whatever you opt, Be steady on it.

7 Ways to Increase Your Social Media Presence and Following

We know how important social media is in today's marketing, but how do you increase your presence and following, so social media is a cost effective marketing tool for your business? I will show you 7 ways that you can start today that will help you in the long term growth of your visibility and following along.

1.Enhance and optimize the feeds you follow.

The most interesting as you are exposed to the most interesting things that you will. If you are unsure of where to start when it comes to improving your own inflows, starting with lists created by people of influence.

2.Share original content.

If you're going to be successful in social media, you need to be creating content. The content is not only articles, but graphics, videos, etc. Engaging in social media with not content, it's like trying to start a car without gas - you will not get anywhere.

3.Share content from others.

While reading the content that interests you and that you think your audience will find interesting be sure to like it, share or re-tweet. Others will see that you share their information and be more likely to share your content. I like to call this sharing of love. Social media is not an individual sport, so start building your team with a solid social media network that will not only give you items to share, but also be willing to share your information as well.

4.Be Interesting.

Find, know and live your own voice. Do not just copy what others do, tap into your own originality. Social media gives you the opportunity to humanize your brand and naturally participate in conversations. Still stuck? Your brand voice can be as simple as an adjective that defines your business. Voice tag can take you from nothing to amazing.

5.Increase your response rate and share.

We know that when it comes to social media algorithms will show messages that get a reply or comment. Learn what types of messages encourage comments and sharing is something that takes time and will more than likely not happen overnight.

Darren Rowse, the Copy blogger  did some experiments and identified 13 positions that tend to get feedback or shared. Here are five of my favorites:

  • Competition - messages that give people a chance to win something by leaving a comment.
  • Show Off / Share a link - Ask readers to view or share something they have written or created.
  • Hacks - Hack walk people through the process, how to or do it yourself project.
  • Question Messages - sounds simple enough, but a question. Those who see it are wired to respond.
  • Debate and controversy - Put all opposing arguments and let your readers react.

6.Be the expert.

Be the industry expert that you represent your company. Provide an overview of what no one else can. Think about it, what lessons can you give that nobody else can? Could you start your own hashtag chat on Twitter or Google+ Hangout on your industry? Do not be afraid to share your knowledge, it will help you build trust with your prospects and customers. One thing to note, Twitter and Google Places visits may take some time to set up, if you start to just stay consistent until you find that you have created your own following. Do not give up too soon - it's a mistake many make.

7.Stay interesting.

Increase your presence and following on social media does not mean stay on the 24/7 social media. Do not be afraid to get off social media and off. Stay interesting continuing to do interesting things that do not involve social media.

5 steps To a Winning Social Media Strategy (Last part)

So here is the second part of my last blog and as promised i have discussed every mentioned step in detail.
Step 1: Content
Step 2: RSS (Real Simple Syndication)
Step 3: Social Search
Step 4: Social Bookmarking
Step 5: Social Networks

1.Content

I know that content takes time and effort, but remember I didn’t tell you that its easy. There are some that relate the content to blogs but I prefer to call “Content” so that you do not think that I am referring to write about where you had been at weekend’s night. Content is the foundation of social media marketing. Content will leave a more lasting effect than anything else, and provide you with a value that can be shared. The content will attract your target audience and drive profitable action for your business. The content is also not only about the content, it is also about to read the contents of the other comments. You will receive back as much as you put in the other - if you can keep in mind that you will be well on your way to build a solid foundation.

2.RSS

What is RSS? I see RSS as a way to easily curate information that will give the ideas and help you to come up with hot topics and also give you info to share with your networks. RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication or. It's an easy way to aggregate and filter content around specific topics that interest you and your target audience. RSS is easy to use and is delivered directly to your desktop.

3.Social Search

It’s so true that social research has gained importance in recent years. Social research is the integration of personal social results and their social graph in public research announcements. What you say and what everyone has to say about your business on social networks. You can use social research to stimulate not only the conversation, but also to help you in managing your reputation. Do you see how your content plays in social research? By posting content or sharing of content, it will start to appear in the results of search engines for those who have your business in their social graph. It always plays out and it's only the beginning, but my personal opinion is that we will begin to see social research to take the place of the search engine optimization on a larger scale.

4.Social Bookmarking

Sharing sites provide a way to find and bookmark and tag stuff all over the web. You can curate information that interest you and share them with your social bookmarking community. Tagging content and participate in communities of social bookmarking is a great way to open more channels to your business and drive traffic research. Sounds great, right? Good - because it requires working. Social bookmarking creates useful and soft search links and these two things empower your content to rank high in search engines. Creating a systematic approach to social bookmarking help to build hundreds of links on your site and in return creating barriers to competition in the key search terms.

5.Social Networks

Last but not least your social media strategy should include social media networks, but this is not the place, where you should spend the majority of your time. Branch out and enjoy the number of potential customers that you might find in social networks like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+, but if you haven’t applied the above steps and clambered the ladder, you will find nothing but frustration. Social networks require some time to comprehend and then they thrive on content and new ideas, but without sharing anything I'm afraid you will not see the positive impact on your business that you hope. Social networks must work to grow your business, not just suck your time. Networks of social networks carry a lot of value to your business, but without content and engagement of these networks leave you empty handed.

Social media does have value, but you must be prepared to:
  • Climb the ladder of social media marketing and invest in each step.
  • Develop a clear and concise strategy that you and your team can follow.
  • Be committed.
  • Be consistent
  • Establish standards and benchmarks to gauge what works and what does not work - it will help find the success of social media marketing.
  • Social media marketing works, but it does not work overnight - you have to work! Invest, you will not regret it.

5 steps To a Winning Social Media Strategy

If I could explain companies one thing about social media and know that they'd "get it" before I walked out of the room it would be that social media is not a quick-fix. Most of the strategies in internet marketing require consistency, time, commitment, and determination and If you are not eager to capitalize in social media it will never give you the outcomes that you want.

Social media isn't just about signing onto Facebook, Tweeting, creating a LinkedIn profile or signing up for Google Plus. To gain value from social media, you must do same i.e. Share value. Today I'm going to show you how to gain, share and integrate value into your
social media strategy.

I like to think of social media as a ladder, go up one step at a time until you reach the top. Arriving at the top of your plain is solid and their efforts will be noticed by your prospects and customers. Now with that being said let me remind the strategy works, but it will not work overnight - it's going to have to be dedicated and investing time every day to create a solid base.

Are you ready to start? If so, we will proceed.

  • Social Media is all about learning, listening and building relations. Social media gives us the ability to:
  • Listen to your customers and potential customers and gain intelligence.
  • Find out what they want. What are you looking for? How can you help?
  • Building relations, because people want to buy from people that they not only know, but whom they like.
  • We are enabled through social media to build authentic and personal connections and in return those connections will help us in growing our businesses. Those contacts will come by giving value - not selling.

The hierarchy of social media strategy looks like this:

Step 1: Content
Step 2: RSS (Real Simple Syndication)
Step 3: Social Search
Step 4: Social Bookmarking
Step 5: Social Networks

Each step is in ranked according to its importance and where you should spend the most time.

6 true Email Marketing Tactics

Many of us think that the rise in social media is the decline of Email Marketing but this is wrong . Email marketing is still a highly effective way to increase sales for your business.
In 2013 , 3.6 billion people had email accounts ad according to an estimate the number will rise to 4.3 billion till the end of 2016. For sure social media is a great way to generate leads but email convert leads into customers.

For years email marketing has been facing a decline because of spam. Realizing that spam is everywhere even on social media. People still respond to right kind of posts and emails. Smart entrepreneurs use email marketing to create new business and turn customers into repeat customers.

If Email marketing done right then it is one of the best tool in your internet marketing campaign. The frustration with email results when entrepreneurs use outdated techniques or have relied too heavily on social media. According to me there are the some tactics that will surely help you in your email marketing campaign.

1.Offer a incentive to get people to Sign-Up

Entrepreneurs know the value of offering a free digital download/video as an incentive to get people to sign up for their email list. The problems is most of these “gifts” are terrible.

Legendary entrepreneur, Ramit Sethi, says your free content should be better than most people’s paid content. With more than 500,000 monthly readers, he definitely practices what he preaches. When you can master this philosophy, you create life-long customers.

It’s worth your time to create a free gift that makes signing up for your email list a no brainer. When someone gets good value from your free content, they are more likely to buy your premium content. You will see a dramatic increase in conversion rates.

2.Use automation

One of the great things about email marketing is that you can have automated campaigns running 24/7. You can set up auto responders with services Mailchimp, Aweber or Infusionsoft.

These campaigns are designed to introduce new customers to your company and, eventually, what your company offers. Automating these emails frees up your time to
work on your other marketing efforts.

3.Focus on the little things

Many emails from entrepreneurs are not opened because they’re missing some of the basics:
  • Strong headlines.
  • Research guiding  the best time to send emails.
  • Being straight to the point. (Focused)
  • Presentation.
  • Clear takeaways.

Making tweaks here and there can dramatically increase your open rates. When you have a captive audience, you create an opportunity to close the sale.

4.Send out exclusive content

Your email list should feel like a VIP club. At least once a month, send content exclusively for your email list. They will realize the value and stayed subscribed.

If the exclusive content is good, they’ll recommend your email list to other people and make it a point to open every email they receive from you.

5.Don't over-sell or be afraid to sell

Entrepreneurs create a ton of free content to build an email list. Whether it’s your blog, podcast or videos, this free content establishes your authority.

The problem comes when you only offer free content, and don’t sell regularly. When you do get around to selling, people opt out like crazy because you’ve confused them. They don’t want to be sold to because you’ve trained them to only expect free content.

You also should also avoid the other end of the spectrum. You risk coming off as the sleazy marketer if you're always selling. A smart entrepreneur will figure out the right balance.

6.Never stop growing your list

Whether you have an email list of 50 people or 500,000, always work on growing your list. People will come and go, so adding new names is vital to keeping your email list healthy.

We live in an unprecedented time where the Internet and social media have created tremendous opportunities to grow an email list of engaged fans and future customers. Take full advantage of social media, webinars, video, guest posting and joint ventures to grow your email list. Grow that list, and nurture it.

If you can use these techniques to make your email marketing efforts better, your influence and income will increase. Use social media, but don’t neglect email. It’s still working and not going away.

10 things you need to know about Apple iphone 6

Apple has announced the iphone 6 at a glitzy event held at the Flintz Centre for performing arts in Cupertino.
The follow up to the iphone 5s comes with a brand new design and a considerably larger screen and that's not all that's new. Here are the 10 things you need to new about apple iphone 6.

1.New Design
We know that apple was going to change the design for the iphone 6 before the first component was leaked. Apple has always revamped its smartphone on even years , separated by incrementally improved 'S' versions in the odd years.
Despite all this , though , seeing the finished iphone 6 product is an undoubted thrill. After all apple is ditching a basic design language that has been around for four years, starting with iphone 4 in 2010.
Gone are the severely squared-off edges that have proved so iconic over the years. In their place , the iphone 6 brings back the curviness of the previous generations.

Now the back and sides of iPhone 6 flow into each other, rather like the iPad Air the iPod 5th generation. The screen too doesn't abruptly end. Rather, it smoothly curves round.
The iPhone 6 is slimmer device than its predecessor, too, at just 6.9mm. In fact, it’s too skinny that the rear camera sticks out disconcertingly from the back of phone

2.Size
Apple has finally made a breakthrough when it comes to size after being stuck with smaller screen all this while. iPhone 6 has 4.7-inch touchscreen whereas iPhone 6 plus will be available with an even better option with an even better option of 5.5-inch. Both the phones are equipped with a new generation retina display and has a resolution of 1334*750 and 1920*1080 respectively, with a pixel density being 326 ppi and 401 ppi. On the other hand HTC took this opportunity to troll Apple on Twitter.

 3.Pricing
The iPhone 6 models  are priced at a difference of $100. For two year contract phones, the pricing of iphone 6 opens at: $199 for the 16 GB model, $299 for the 64 GB model and $399 for 128GB model, whereas the pricing for iPhone 6 plus will be: $299 for the 16 GB model, $399 for the 64 GB model and $499 for 128GB model. In other regions the prices will vary from Rs. 80,000 – Rs. 105,000, which means an average man needs to sell his kidney to own one.

4.Weight
Early in his presentation Tim Cook, specified that the iPhones will be thinner, despite their many features, which holds true, as the iPhone 6 is 6.9mm and iPhone 6 plus is 7.1mm, which means even though Apple has gotten larger screens from Android, it has not taken up their bulky heavier structure.

5.Battery Life
Tim Cook assures you that the new iPhone 6 models’ will have a battery life equivalent or even better than the iPhone 5s. The iPhone 6 is expected to pull a talktime of close to 13 hours, with 10/12 hours of LTE and 50/80 hours of playback music experience.

6.Voice over LTE
Sometimes your network provider is not at its best in a a particular area, and it is more feasible to switch to a wi-fi network to add more quality to the voice call. The Voice over LTE(VoLTE) in iPhone 6 enables you to switch from a network provider to a wi-fi network mid-call without compromising with the ongoing conversation in anyway. You won’t even notice the change. There is no dip quality-wise or any voice-breakage at all.

7.Apple Pay
Apple has come up with their own payment system, because what else there is that they cannot do? If you have an iPhone, you can enter your card details with Apple Pay on it, or click a picture of your card and your iPhone will verify your details. Once the verification is done, you can use your iPhone for payment. by holding it up at the counter for the reader to read. You then use your fingerprint to confirm payment.
The best thing is your ID, card details and password aren’t saved anywhere on the server to avoid fraud. So far Apple Pay works for Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Many big companies like McDonald’s, Disney and Subway have welcomes this new technology.

8.Camera , Sensors , Slow-motion video and more:
Like the previous iPhone models, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus have the same 8MP Camera, however it comes with a bunch of newly added features to make taking pictures a better experience for the users. These phones come with a new sensor that helps you to focus twice as much as the previous versions of the iPhone, which means you end up with a far lesser probability of getting a blurry picture in case you happen to take one on the go.

Apart from this, both the iPhone 6 models also comes with a ‘Selfie Burst’ feature that allows you to take a couple of pictures in sequence and lets you flip through them, to choose the ones you like the best.
The slow-motion video feature probably takes the cake though. It lets you shoot a video at 240 frames per second which you can slow down later to the fraction of their original speed. Cool, right?
To add a cherry on top, iPhone 6 plus comes with optimal image stabilization, with detects movements like shaking of phone and offsets them leading to a more crystal clear image.

9.Connectivity and Speed
iPhone 6 models, according to Tim Cook, are the fastest iPhone series mobiles ever. They will run on the recently unveiled iOS 8, Apple’s brand new Operating system, which allows seamless integration of iPhone and Mac, better onscreen keyboards and iCloud services. The iPhone 6 also supports the latest wifi standard – 802.11ac, that make it three times faster than iPhone 5s.
Moving over 3G, iPhone 6 models have a 4G networking standards, which means that it supports 20 different frequency bands, which allows it to operate in even more countries.

10.Horizontal view mode
Although Android has been supporting this feature since long, iPhone recently introduced the Horizontal view feature, and has also developed iOS apps that show different features when viewed horizontally. Not only this, this feature also works with the home screen like this:

10 piece of advices from a Final year.

Most of us can agree that first two semesters in university are spent trying out a multitude of activities while setting down in university and finfing one's niche. The remaining years in my opinion should be used to focus on one or more big projects while helping out juniors and imparting "nuggets of wisdom". So as a dutiful graduate student here are 10 things that i've learnt in my four years in Punjab University.

1.Take up atleast one activity that gets you talking to people you don't know
Whether its joining some society or an university event , do something that forces you to call , email or have face to face conversations with as many people as possible. We're going to be doing alot of that for the rest of our lives , so we might as well get over the awkwardness that often comes with it.

2.From time to time attends events that have nothing to do with your field of study
Sit in the audience for that Quiz competition or IT competition if you're a Marketing major or better yet compete in one. Attend seminars that even are irrelevant to you. They are easy ways to get exposed to a wide range of topics and learn about new fields. You're in some place like PU where ther's some seminar , event or discussion going on every day - make full use of these opportunities.

3.The internet is beautiful.Try using it for thingd other than Facebook every now and then.
Yes its easy to get carried away while looking at the pictures of 200+ pictures from a party someone on our list threw(and didn't invite us to) , but it's a shame if that's all we end up using the internet for! Follow couple of interesting pages , groups and blogs reach out to alumini from your university through Linkedin or some other social networking site or Set up an alert to make sure you don't miss the dates for that fellowships you've been eyeing.
(And that's just the tip of the iceberg)

4.It's perfectly okay if you don't know what you want to do , but that doesn't mean you shouldn't do anything
Most of us (yes , even the specialization students) are still figuring out what they want to do.Univeristy gives you ample space to try out a number of activities.Even if haven't found "your thing" in university yet on't give up. Give multiple activities a shot, find what you like doing, and then get really good at it.

5.It may sound rather simplified , but you make your own experience.
Regardless of your university and the tag that comes with it, your attitude and actions create your experience, or atleast a major chunk of the same. Sure, maybe opportunities are more easily accessible for students of certain universities, but there is no dearth of opportunities for those who are willing to go the extra mile to seek them.

6.Help out your juniors and ask your seniors to tell you about their experiences.
Freshers are a rather enthusiastic bunch and always bubbling with a lot of questions about societies , internships , exams and further studies. if u know something useful help them out. Also take out the time to befriend a couple of seniors and ask them to tell you tales of what they've learnt.

7.Don't burn bridges unnecessarily and don't be "That guy"
Making mean and hurtful comments may seem like a good idea in the moment , but its best not to burn bridges if they can be avoided. You know how there's always that one person in every class who gets out of his/her way to get people feel bad about themselves? Yeah, don't be that guy. You don't have to be best friends with everyone , but maintaining a basic level of courtesy is never a bad idea.

8.Academics are important but to some extent
This largely depends on what your plans for the future are (for example, if you want to get into Harvard or research, then yes, academics are supremely important), but for the most part, maintaining a ‘decent’ percentage while getting your hands into other activities can help you lead a balanced college life. This target score, of course, varies from course to course.
For example, most entrance exams for post graduate courses require a bare minimum of 50% in graduation, and some top notch companies only interview candidates with more than 75% aggregate during placement. Keep all these factors in mind, and set your goals accordingly.

9.Show up for your friends
If your college or school friend is acting in a play, go and support them in the audience. If they're organizing a competition or exhibition during a fest, go and attend it. These small gestures matter a lot, especially when everyone is always busy and has conflicting schedules

10.Go on a trip with your friends..Atleast once
Depending on your budget and how easily you can convince your parents, select a place and go there with your friends. Whether it’s for a competition, or even a day a some place, it’ll definitely be one of the highlights of your college life.
